In the Al Sahba Valley, 100km south east of Riyadh, is a dairy farm which feeds, waters and milks 29,000 cows every day. It also provides them with air-conditioning to protect them from the fierce Arabian summers
All the Al-Safi Dairy's operations including the 29,000 head of cattle, milking parlors, processing and packaging plants, and the distribution system, are on-site. Most basic feed needs (Alfalfa, Rhodes grass, Hay and Sorghum Sudani silage) are grown on the farm.

Al-Safi dairy uses Holstein Friesian cows from Europe and Canada - they produce 100,000 gallons of milk a day. All the water required to supply the farm comes from hi-tech wells dug 2000m deep into the desert.

Besides water consumption by the herd (70-115 liters of water per cow, per day), and irrigation for their crops, water at Al-Safi is also used for cooling the cows to protect them from the intense heat, especially during the summer. Al-Safi has equipped its cattle pens with evaporative cooling systems. Using the latest technology, air-droplet cooling fans cool the cattle that take shelter under special awnings.
